TOBIAS
WEGNER
was born in 1980 in Heidelberg. From a young age, he had a penchant for circus clowning and the subtle comedy of the silent movie era. At the age of nearly 20, he made it to Brussels' École Supérieure des Arts du Cirque to turn his passion into a profession.
There, he completed training to become a state-certified artist with a diploma in partner and trampoline acrobatics.
Since 2003, he has worked across genres in various international projectsat the crossroads of theater, dance, opera, and circus - from Schauspiel Frankfurt to the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, from Southbank Centre London to Théâtre de la Cité Internationale, Paris.
His greatest success to date is a theater production called LEO - a 65-minute solo performance by and with Wegner, which builds on Wall Clown. Together with four other creatives, Tobias developed this evening-filling performance, which premiered in August 2011 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
It walked off with three major theater awards and began to tour worldwide. To date the piece has been performed over 1000 times in 35 countries and has been presented in renowned theaters and performing arts festivals in Vancouver, Montreal, New York, St. Louis, Miami, Madrid, London, Paris, Berlin, Moscow, Tehran, Harare, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, Okinawa, Melbourne, Sydney, and Auckland.
Tobias Wegner is currently working on a new piece and is supported by Fonds Darstellende Künste.
